Features of Brake Fluids
-
High Boiling Point:
Brake fluids must have a high boiling point to prevent vapor formation under high-temperature conditions, which could lead to brake failure. There are two main boiling points: dry (new fluid) and wet (after absorbing moisture). -
Excellent Lubrication Properties:
It provides adequate lubrication to moving parts within the brake system, reducing friction, wear, and corrosion of components such as pistons, seals, and master cylinders. -
Corrosion Resistance:
Brake fluid contains inhibitors that protect metal parts of the braking system (steel, aluminum, brass, etc.) from rust and corrosion, ensuring long-lasting performance. -
Low Compressibility:
To ensure immediate braking response, the fluid must remain incompressible even under high pressure, allowing consistent and efficient power transmission. -
Thermal Stability:
It maintains chemical stability at both high and low temperatures, preventing vapor lock in hot conditions and ensuring flow in cold weather.
